Did you know?

1 in 10 Arizonans are living with diabetes. That’s more than 600,000 people - about the entire populations of Flagstaff and Tucson combined.

Diabetes impacts so many Arizona families and is taking a devastating toll on our community's health, leading AZ Blue to launch our Diabetes Action Plan in 2022. Our goal is to give you the extra support you deserve to manage your condition and prevent its progression. And we want to make sure you know about all the ways we can help you!

Take advantage of your health benefits
  1. AZ Blue’s Health Management Program provides health and nutrition coaching to members newly diagnosed with diabetes.
  • The program is available to federal employees and some AZ Blue members with employee-sponsored health insurance. If you don’t qualify for Health Management, our Care Management team is there for all members who need help with complex and chronic conditions like diabetes. To learn more, visit: Health Management Program | AZ Blue.

2. Dietician visits are covered at no cost under most plans (up to a certain number of visits). Check your plan benefits for details!

3. Sharecare, a digital health platform available to many members, offers prediabetes and diabetes education and, for some, personalized lifestyle coaching. Visit azblue.sharecare.com and enter your member ID number to see if it’s included in your plan.

And if you don’t yet have a healthcare team to help you manage your diabetes, log in to azblue.com/MyBlue and click Find a Doctor. Healthcare teams could include a primary care provider, registered dietitian, and in some cases, an endocrinologist.

AZ Blue in action

We ork to help not only our members but ALL Arizonans. Here are some of the ways:

  • Partnered with the ADA to bring their Project Power programs to Arizona. In 2023, 437 adults and 270 children signed up for the programs that provide weekly coaching and support groups.
  • Created a diabetes website full of resources and information. For example, you can take a 60-second diabetes risk test or find screening locations: Diabetes | AZBlue
  • Volunteering, participating, and offering free blood sugar screenings (A1C tests) at events across the state, including Festival de la Salud, Healthy Fall Festival & Turkey Giveaway, ADA Tour de Cure, and AZ Blue Health Fair. More to come!
We want to empower you to take charge of your health! Remember that small lifestyle changes can make a big difference – like adding more movement to your life, eating nutritiously, and seeing your provider regularly. To learn more about diabetes management and prevention, visit: Managing Your Diabetes: Health Screenings to Schedule in the New Year.
