Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona to Provide 40 Scholarships to Complete Aces Training
Applications now open for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Consortium’s training program to become certified ACEs trainers
WHAT: Blue Cross® Blue Shield® of Arizona (BCBSAZ) is providing scholarships to 40 individuals within Arizona communities and organizations to complete the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Consortium’s 5-week training program to become a certified ACEs trainer. Training participants will gain a deeper understanding of the ACEs study, both nationally and in Arizona, and the short- and long-term impacts of trauma along the age continuum from children to adults. Participants will learn resilience and trauma-informed care strategies, skills, and resources to support those who have experienced adversity/trauma.
WHY: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events that happen in childhood. In Arizona, more than half of adults have experienced at least one ACE, and the higher the number of traumatic experiences before the age of 18, the greater the risk for numerous health and social problems throughout a person's lifetime. BCBSAZ is committed to building trauma-informed care capacity statewide to improve mental health outcomes for Arizonans. Certified ACEs trainers will gain knowledge and skills to help inspire communities to break the cycle and mitigate the impact of ACEs or toxic stress and help foster the health and well-being of Arizonans.
WHEN/WHERE: Virtual training every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for 5 weeks, beginning October 19, 2021.
WHO SHOULD APPLY: Individuals who are interested in deepening their knowledge about ACEs and the trauma- informed approach and are committed to continuing this work in their communities. Experience working in this area is helpful, but not required.
